Don’t Commit Carbicide!

Besides seeing the changes in the bodies and lives of my clients, one of the coolest parts of my job are some of the special invitations I receive.
And sometimes, it’s a private party/get together at a clients home.

This weekend, one of my girls and her husband held a private screening of the movie, “Bruno”, for family and friends.

Normally this type of movie isn’t my cup of tea, but after seeing the commercials and hearing the buzz, I just had to see how Sacha Baron Cohen transformed himself into the character of Bruno.

The movie was absolutely hilarious at some points and hard to watch at others. Sacha does not hold back!

I don’t want to make this a review of the movie, but if you like any of Sacha’s other work, or you enjoy this crude (but intelligent) type of humor, I’d recommend seeing it. But if not, think twice!

There was a scene that really made me laugh and I thought it would make for a nice illustration.

Bruno ends up in a severe state of depression (watch the movie) and is later found in a diner attempting to “commit” carbicide.

Now, maybe you or I haven’t taken it to that extreme (or maybe you have), but I am sure we can all relate

Tell me you’ve never experienced those late nights, digging into a pint of ice cream, of “finishing up” the last 3 cookies to get rid of them (after having just eaten the other 27).

Committing carbicide is basically going on high-carb junk food. Whether it’s PMS, stress, or for whatever reason – it happens to the best of us.

I thought it might be helpful to make a few recommendations for some treats you can have that will satisfy your sweet tooth, but will prevent an incident of carbicide.

Val’s Banana, Peanut Butter, and Coconut Treat!

bananatreat
I love quick and easy snacks that I can put together incase I’m in a time crunch, or for when I just don’t have anything prepared (oops!). I mentioned this snack in our last chat (Tuesday, 5/5) as a yummy after dinner treat – especially for those of you who crave sweets after dinner. As with everything else, moderation is key! It’s easy to over eat something so delicious, but take your time with enjoying this and savor every bite.

What You’ll Need:

1 Banana – small or medium sized (remember, this is a SNACK!)
1 tbsp of all natural Peanut Butter (this means no JIF, no SKIPPY)
1 tbsp of shredded coconut

What To Do:
Slice your banana however you like (halves, small pieces, etc.) and place in a bowl.w
Mix in 1 tbsp of all natural Peanut Butter that you have first quickly heated up in the microwave for about 10 seconds (to soften).
For the finishing touch, sprinkle the shredded coconut on your bananas topped with Peanut Butter, and ENJOY!!

Black & Blue Crisp

The buttery, cookielike topping in most crisps is usually a calorie bomb. This crumble made with whole-wheat flour and rolled oats (gently sweetened with honey) will save you calories, and it provides you with almost 5 grams of fiber per serving. You can always trade in other fruit options depending on what’s in season and what you prefer.
Recipe serves 4

What you’ll Need:
Cooking spray
1 cup fresh blackberries
1 cup fresh blueberries
4 tsp fresh orange juice
½ tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp whole wheat flour
3 tbsp rolled oats
2 tbsp brown sugar
4 tsp canola oil
2 tsp honey
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg

Heat your oven to 375 degrees. Coat 4 oz ramekins with coking spray. Combine your berries, juice & vanilla in a bowl; set aside. Combine the remaining ingredients in another bowl with hands until moist and crumby. Spoon the fruit mixture into ramekins, scatter crumb mixture evenly over the top of each. Bake until fruit bubbles and top is golden brown, 15-20 mins

The Peanut Butter/Coconut/Banana snack is great. I started using almond butter and it’s quite yummy too! Moderation is key…I got addicted to it for about a week and needed to go cold turkey! But I love this. gotta try that crumble…which looks really yummy too!
