Lose 10 (or more!) Before 2010
Pin It
That’s right! Whether or not you have achieved the goals/resolutions you set for yourself at the beginning of 2009 – I’m want to help you get there (or take it even further)
So that’s what this post is about.. a little pre-holiday motivation to get you going again!
In the coming weeks, we’ll talk more specifics about workout/exercise/diet ideas but this post is all about the strategies I use with my girls to “get their head in the game.”
So with 8 weeks left in the year, you still have time to reach the goals you set for yourself this year! DON’T wait til next year to start.. even if the Holidays are coming.
Don’t re-visit the past resolution: it’s likely to set you up for frustration and disappointment. Let’s either: 1.) set a new one or 2.) approach your previous one in a new way.
So, if your goal this year was to “lose weight,” let’s be a little bit more specific and define exactly how much you want to lose.
If you had already stated you were “going to lose 15 pounds,” let’s dial that in a little bit more and say “I’m going to weigh 137 pounds by the end of year” (or whatever is 15 pounds less for you)
It’s best to think in terms of the end result. So don’t say “I want to drop 3 dress sizes..” instead, try “I’m going to be in a size 4 before January 1″
Write these goals down and then…
GO PUBLIC!
Studies have shown that talking about your goals with friends or other like-minded people increase your chances of success by a large margin. There are a few different ways you can do this:
1. Write them down and post them so you (and others) can see them. This may be on your refrigerator, in your pantry, in your bathroom, in your car — or
2. Make a pact with friend(s) and/or family members – you tell them what you want to achieve and they’ll tell you what they want to achieve. Now, hold eachother accountable!
3. Make a comment on the bottom of this post and tell us what your goals are! Then get after it!
Make your workouts FUN!
Try something new. No matter who you are, everyone gets bored doing some same thing again and again. Vary your routine, if you can get outside and workout – try that. If you normally workout at home, try going to a gym.
Try the Action Hero Babe Training System, what some are calling the most fun workouts they have ever done.

It’s been out for less than a month and take a look at what some of the girls are saying about it!
I had to send you a note to tell you how much I loved working out ‘with you’ last night! I got my package yesterday. I couldn’t wait to try them out. I think you did an excellent job! You were so genuine and it was fun to have a work out partner. You made me laugh a bunch of times because you were so cute! Putting on your glasses! – Heather Kramers
I am only on my second week but I love my Action Hero Babes workout DVD’s. I enjoy starting my day with a good morning workout, it is such a positive way to start the day. I was amazed and relieved that the workouts are basic exercises ANYONE can do regardless of their age with very little alternation and not a lot of specialty equipment, jumping around and loud music. Great job!! – Diane Kathkart
The main reason I am writing is to tell you that I have lost some weight!!!! I hadn’t been trying to lose any, just working to stay fit and healthy, but sure enough, the scale says I am down!!! It was 141 yesterday, which I thought was a fluke, so I weighed again today, and it was 140!!! I cannot believe it! This is the lowest I have been since the first year Michael & I were married (so 1997 or so). Truthfully, I know I did the work, clearly, but you serve as my inspiration every day, and I just wanted to say thank you. And, as an added bonus, I had to take more clothes to the tailor this weekend, darn it!!! – Stephanie C.
Here’s your “Lose 20 in 8″ Checklist.
1. Get clear on your goals. Specific measurable numbers! Not just lose weight. Remember the S.M.A.R.T. principle
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time based (SMART)
2. Define exactly how you’re going to get there. “Workout” won’t cut it. Example “I’m going to get to the gym 2 times a week, on Monday and Thursday and I’ll do 3 cardio workouts on my home treadmill on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
3. Post what you came up with in numbers 1 and 2 in places you will see them often. This is a strategy I use with all of my girls.
4. Take before pictures and measurements! There is NOTHING more motivating than seeing results. I can say that this is the easiest way to curb those cravings. Imagine, in 2 weeks, putting your new pictures right next to the ones you take today and seeing your belly getting smaller, your love handles shrinking, your butt starting to perk up! Those visible results are so much tastier than any treat you think you may want.
5. Incorporate full-body resistance training exercises into your routine atleast 2-3 times per week. You don’t need any fancy equipment or even a gym membership to do this!

@runaholickassy
Thanks Val, that’s exactly what I need!
you do it again…you moved me!
Lynne, You can do this! Re-write your intentions, do another kitchen purge and re-stock and then take some more action. You will be so glad you did. I know you will find your way back. And of course it’s okay to only do 2 circuits instead of 3. Something is always better than nothing.
Great post, Val! I totally agree that you should focus on the positive (I am going to get X) rather than what you don’t like (I need to lose Y).
My goal for the rest of 2009… finish the year at 195 (that’s where I am now, and I that’s where I want to be!)
Talk soon!
Ben
Great Going Val!! The Action hero sure is a hit! Now, where’s mine?
miss you!
Okay, I did red carpet ready this summer and felt better than I’d ever felt, but it has all crept back . . . along with all my old habits. I’m going to get back in the habit of 6 days a week of exercise, even if I only have time for two of the circuits on the non-cardio days, get back to eating whole grains and protien, and also make my way down to 137 (a modest 5 pound loss) and stay there through the holidays!
