Thermometer Jeans

When beginning a program, you should get the following progress indicator on record.  I am all about tuning in to how you feel and look, but you also need indicators to tell you whether you’re on track.

The most accurate and important measurement is a pair of what I call thermometer jeans.

Thermometer jeans tell you if you are getting closer to being HOT!  And they tell you when you are HOT!  And of course, most important, when you reach the point of maintaining your fit female body, they tell you when you’re NOT!  Remember the goal is to be the BITCH in your thermometer jeans!

Once you’ve decided you want to be fit and fabulous, buy a pair of jeans that you want to fit into or pull out that pair that’s been hiding in the back of your closet.  Whatever size you want to be in your fit body, have those jeans on hand.

I recommend starting with a pair about two sizes too small.  Keep them out where you can see them every day and try them on every couple of weeks.  You might start off not even being able to pull the jeans up your thighs.

A few weeks later, you’ll be able to pull them up over your thighs, but they might get stuck on your hips.  Eventually, you’ll have them on, but there will be no way you can zip or button them.  Then, lo and behold, the button will touch the hole and you’ll be able to fasten it, but they’ll still be so tight that you would never wear them in public.

Then at last they’ll be on, zipped, and fitting you pretty well.

Soon enough, they’ll fit you just right, when you are looking HOT and have become the BITCH!

These are now you thermometer jeans.

They tell you exactly where you are.  They don’t lie.  They are the jeans that will tell you when you are straying from your fit female lifestyle too much and need to get back on track.  They are the best measurement you have.

    Nice. But it doesn’t work for me. If I got 2 sizes smaller, I would disappear. I’m already the size I want to be, but not the firmness. My thermometer will be when I am not embarrassed to wear short skirts or shorts.

    This idea has helped me. I have a six month old baby and I am still working off my baby fat and I can finally fit into my size 4’s and zip them up! I am still working on toning and trying to get firm again with Val’s Action Hero Babe workout!

    I”m confused - two blogs ago you’re talking about how YES women can get “too bulky” how you train them to de-bulk…and now you’re advocating this book in which Cosgrove is telling women to lift heavy (aka “challenging”) weights. Is it just because you all get a financial perk for anyone who clicks and orders her book from your webpage?

    I’m tempted to buy the book but like Alle, I don’t need to get smaller, I just need to tighten up and get firmer (particularly in the glutes and glute/ham tie in).

    Val, what type of training do you recommend for someone like Alle and me where we’re already the size we want to be but need to tighten and firm up.

    I’ve been thinking about your Action Hero program but it seems geared more towards fat loss than for my current goals.

    Would love to hear your thoughts.

    Rachel is a great friend of mine and I’ve seen the transformations her clients make.. that’s why I mentioned her book. Not to mention I just love the ‘thermometer jeans’ concept.

    Challenging weights doesn’t necessarily mean ‘bulk.’ I have my clients lift ‘challenging’ weights all the time. You just have to know where to draw the line.

    Also, “too” bulky for one woman may not be for another. Too is a subjective term. What’s too bulky for you?

    Honestly, I just wanted to share the thermometer jeans idea with my readers and help my friend a little bit.

    Nothing underhanded going on here, I promise. I stand by everything I write.

    Alexandra - my Action Hero Babe program is certainly great for fat loss, but…

    Out of all of my transformation programs, AHB is the one I would recommend for your situation.

    Replacing a tiny bit of body fat with a tiny bit of muscle sounds like exactly what you need to do - which is what AHB is designed to do!

    Hey Val - First of all I love, love, love your DVDs !! Feel like you are right there with me…. Second - I want to thank you for all your love and support. You are one in a million and I could never have met my weight and fitness goals without you and the RCR! Finally after years of being embarrassed by my lower body, I felt confident enough this summer to wear shorts in public - you gave me back my sass and self confidence - so thank you… Also, after being stuck for a bit, I wanted to let you know that after 4 week on your new AHB program, I lost an additional 2.5 inches - I didn’t think it possible, but I weighed in at 127 this morning - I am now down a full 20 lbs and almost 26 inches since I started working with you - again, thank you!!     I have just begun Rachels program using her book. Its just been one week and my whole diet is changed as well as my attitude. I have noticed my legs and thighs are much more firm as well as other areas. I am psyched!
