Valslide Exercise for the Abs!

32 Comments January 14, 2010 / Posted in Uncategorized

My good friend and quite possibly the best strength and conditioning coach in the world, Mike Boyle, invented this exercise…  and it has since become my new favorite exercise! I’ve been doing it with all of my clients… (and myself!)

Try doing it for time…  or doing 15-20 repetitions.  Or going right into another movement like a Mini-Pike or Mountain Climber!

The keys to proper execution:

1.  Body stays aligned.  Hips not too low or not too high.

2.  Abs stay tight.

3.  Go as far in each direction as possible while maintaining proper posture.

4.  Breathe!

5.  Enjoy!

Whoaaaa – hello Abs for sure! I just gave this a shot on my living room floor and I have to say I’m impressed by the distance Ryan was getting in each direction in the demo I couldn’t go as far (but I’ll work on it). I just added Broken Windshield Wiper to my abs routine last week and now I’ll be adding Body Saw too!

    Thanks Val xo

Body Saws are no joke! You must have great core strength before executing.

  16. Denise said on January 14th, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Val! Just tried it right now~did 15 saws and WOW!!! I can totally feel this in my entire core. I actually really like this ab exercise and will include it in your other programs that I have. Awesome music in the video BTW. I like all the sound effects~very cool. It amazes me how creative you are and how you manage to keep things fun and challenging. Great job Val =)

Yeah, Val! That video rocks the hizzy!!!

How do you do it? :-)

Another great exercise (I am not surprised) For the guys and for the gals (who are in better than average shape) I would suggest wearing a weighted vest. It just makes it slightly or considrably (if more than 20 lbs. is used) more difficult.

I love this! I’m away on vacation and of course brought my Valslides with me, so getting to try this new little gym while out of town was so much fun!! Thank you for keeping my exercising fun!!

Can I purchase Valslides in the UK????

  22. valerie Waters said on January 16th, 2010 at 11:44 am

I am so happy you guys like the new exercise. It was invented by my friend Mike Boyle, one of the first to really embrace the Valslide. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be killer. I love/hate it now!!

Ryan gets the credit for the music and the video. That is his styling all the way! Oh, and he’s the model.

Katharine – right now, you can only purchase valslides on the web. Go to http://www.valslide.com. We ship to the UK daily. It seems to be very popular there!

  24. kassy said on January 18th, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I love this exercise. It is so simple, and it looks like it really wouldn’t do much but it is amazing!

I like to add it to the end of my workouts for a strong finish.

  27. Valerie Waters said on January 28th, 2010 at 9:06 am

Hi Shawn, You can trying doing a triple threat – start with upside down snow angel, to a mini pike, to the bodysaw! That will get you a six pack! So many fun things to do with the Valslides!

  28. Jennifer said on January 29th, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Love it!! I just finished week 1. I love it i actually get pumped thinking about doing the next cd!! Val you are amazing i feel as if you are right there in the room with me. I am dedicating sunday to doing all my food prep for the week. I didn’t follow to the t with food this week but did not do bad at all. From watching the AHB i am more conscious of my choices. I wish i had the guts to tke my pics and send them in. Happy workout everyone=)

After the first day I did this, my abs felt so sore! I loved it. This is such a subtle movement with maximum effect. That’s one of the reasons I love the valslide. Next up, I’ll try that triple threat you mentioned. Thanks Val.

I’m trying to find a copy of the Women’s Health & Fitness video that Valerie Waters made. It’s called Celebrity Workout Secrets. Can anyone please tell me where I can buy it?

  32. Adrienne said on April 14th, 2010 at 4:06 pm

    Hi Val,
I just ordered your Action Hero Babe workout set and I am looking forward to it coming in the mail! I have a question regarding workouts and building muscle in the lower body…I am 29 and have been working out intensely since I’ve been 16, and have always been an athlete. I eat healthy, etc… It just seems that no matter what I do, my thighs and butt bulk up to the point where I don’t feel proportional. What exercises can I do to keep cardiovascular shape and tone without putting so much emphasis on the lower body?
