Four Tips For A Fit & Fabulous 4th!

The 4th of July is typically celebrated with BBQ’s, pool parties, picnics and quick trips out of town. No matter how you plan to celebrate there are a few things to keep in mind.
Get Ready!
If you are traveling, be sure to pack your Valslides and some healthy snacks, like my Red Carpet Ready Trail Mix (almonds, raisins and chocolate covered cacao nibs), low sugar protein bars, or my new favorite snack bars from Two Moms In The Raw.
If you’re going to be home, stock your kitchen early (last minute holiday shopping is no fun!). Make sure you have plenty of veggies on hand, which are not only great on the grill but are excellent for dipping as well. I like to make Guacamole and I always have a variety of hummus and salsa’s available. It is possible to turn out a delicious spread that will satisfy dieters and non-dieters alike.

For drinks, besides the usual wine and beer, consider offering Spa Water (it looks so pretty), and a special “skinny” drink, such as a Skinny Girl Margarita (created and made popular by Bethenny Frankel).
Get Set!
Get your workout out of the way early so you are ready to go play and enjoy the day. Try my $30 Treadmill for a fun, fast, fat burning workout. Eat a healthy breakfast that includes some protein – I like my “More Veggie Than Egg Scramble”, this is a great way to set up your day. You don’t want to waste your calories on a sugary coffee drink or a fat free (but not calorie free) muffin. Rather, save your splurge for the BBQ.
Go!
Have fun!! Enjoy the BBQ but try not to plant yourself in front of chips. Enjoy a Skinny Girl cocktail but make sure you drink plenty of water too. If you’re at the beach or at the park, try to work in some activities. Think play!
The Next Day.
Hopefully you were able to enjoy the weekend without feeling that you derailed your fitness plan. But regardless, it’s back on track Monday. Do your I Want My Bikini Body workout and get right back to your clean eating. If the party was at your house and there are leftover chips and dips and cookies and crackers, get them out of your house ASAP! Leftovers from the grill, like chicken, burgers or veggies are safe to keep – these will make for a yummy lunch or dinner.Often what sabotages a fitness program is not a one-day event but what we do the few days after. So, celebrate our countries Independence Day but don’t keep the partying going for a week.
Love & Lunges,
Val

Hey Jen- Which move are you not familiar with? I will try and explain or direct you to a pic or video.
Sheila-That does sound like a good one.
Darrah- The Valslide DVD’s will be ready in a couple weeks. Ryan’s finishing the disc art and then they are off to be replicated!
I took a look at your “treadmill” workout, but I don’t recognize some of those moves. Where can I get a look at what to do?
PS – I’ve been doing the shoulder workout you posted a while back, and I absolutely LOVE it!
Congrats everyone!
One of my favorite low-cal cocktail this summer has been citrus (preferably mandarin orange) infused vodka and club soda severd over ice with a lime or orange wedge. Delish!
Happy 4th!
Thanks Val! I’ve never seen your $30 treadmill post. That looks like a good one! I’ll have to try it out this weekend when I’m away from the gym. Have a great long weekend!
Thanks for the tips Val! Have a wonderful holiday!
P.S. Will the new dvd be available for purchase anytime soon?
Congrats to the winners! Have a safe, happy and healthy Fourth of July!!
