Your Fit Life

18 Comments July 10, 2010 / Posted in Uncategorized

A couple weeks ago I asked you to share your “one thing” that you are either doing or not doing that might be sabotaging your fitness results – whether that was consistently raiding the vending machine, not making time for workouts or something else. Well, the response was incredible! So many people were able to get clear on the one thing holding them back.

Now, I’d like for you to try another exercise…
I’m sure that if you’re reading my blog then you’re either fit or would like to be fit. You probably already know how to eat healthy, you already exercise (maybe not consistently) and you most likely have at least several diet books, workout programs and fitness tools. It is said that energy goes where attention flows, so what I’d like you to do is focus on what you are doing RIGHT, celebrate it and do more of it! Put your attention towards your efforts and you’ll find yourself doing more things that will positively contribute to your fit and healthy lifestyle.

  • If you brought a healthy lunch and snack to work – good job!!
  • If you made it to all (or even most) of your workouts this past week – good job!!
  • If you recognized that YOU are an important part of your life and you carved out some quiet time for yourself – good job!!

We are often so hard on ourselves and beat ourselves up when we fall off the clean eating wagon or skip too many workouts. Recognize that some of what you are doing IS working and be proud of yourself for that.

Tell me what you’re doing RIGHT in your fit life and I will cheer you on!

    What I’m doing RIGHT!
    - I eat a nice, healthy, filling breakfast every day.
    - I pre-pack my lunch and snacks for the day.
    - I work out a few times a week (although it could be more consistent!)
    - I drink a lot of water and don’t drink other beverages (sodas, coffee)

Elissa – You are doing many things right. Good job! You are on the healthy living path.

    - I am getting up early and going to the gym immediately.
    - Eating a healthy breakfast early after the workout.
    - Trying to portion control my snacks
    - Enjoying drinking water
    - Have cut out ginger ale!
    - Trying to not look critically at myself, but instead except my body.

-I have been getting up 30 mins early and doing brisk 30 min walk first thing (this isn’t my workout for the day)
-I have a healthy breakfast every morning
-I got all my BB3 workouts in this week even when I almost didn’t want to, I made myself
-More extra fun fit activites like long bike rides pulling my son on the weehoo (over 8 miles), playing in the pool, dance parties with my son which includes a lot of jumping skipping, and swing an extra 35lbs around :)

Val, this is a fantastic post and great advice! I have been feeling really blue since my jaw surgery on June 1st. I haven’t been able to workout. All my food was sugary and boring. I feel out of shape and really “blah”. I was focusing on all the negatives.

I’m happy to say that since my wires were removed on Thursday (I was wired shut) I didn’t eat a ton of crap. I allowed myself 2 treats then went straight back to clean eating. I also completed two workouts! I didn’t allow myself to slack off for days and days. I’m back on track and I feel great. It’s going to be a long road ahead but I know I can do it. :)

Thanks so much for sharing. I think you are great!

Valerie!!! I love this!! What I do right is plan my meals and workouts each week and follow that plan … when I slip up food-wise, I get right back on track with my next meal, check in with my RCR girls for my daily motivation – and leave a little motivation behind for them …. all thing I learned from you missy!!! Thanks Val!

Kim- Way to get right back on track! Good job!

LeeAnne- You definitely know how to do many things right. I love that you always get right back on track after a slip up. Great job!

First thank you, Val for your down to earth sincerity. I do many things right. I work out just about every day and I do it in the morning so I won’t let anything else get in the way. I even have workouts I do on my “days off” from working out. I eat healthy about 85% of the time. I do allow myself some indulgences, but do it moderately. I drink a lot of water. When I eat out, I divide my meal in half so I can enjoy the rest of it the next day. I try to get enough sleep every night and I floss my teeth daily. I am 54 and many tell me I look at least 10 years younger than that. Thank you again and I do love your valslides!

Great post Val!! ;-) As usual. My friend Amy really helped me turn around my mindset and start doing a bit of what you are saying- adding in positivity and encouragement to myself instead of only seeing what I have left to fix! What I’m doing right at present: I am accepting myself where I am RIGHT NOW. I am recognizing my progress FIRST and what I still have to work on (i.e. where the fat still is!) second. I am branching out and trying new things, new workouts (started running!) and enjoying every day. I am tracking my workouts in a calendar and keeping a food diary. I am improving my relationship with food/eating so I can be getting fit and healthy but enjoying life- in moderation- along the way. I am not giving up, ever. I am working on getting better every workout. I am Aiming High and Never Settling! WOOT!!

I try to walk as much as I can. If I am not able to walk for a half hour, I attempt to walk very fast for 5 to 10 minutes. This provides explosive energy.

  14. Valerie said on July 11th, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Karen- It sounds like you are living a very balanced fit life. Well done!

Kelly- I think we all need more positivity and self encouragement. That was part of idea of this post. To acknowledge what we do right. You are such an inspiration to others. Thank you for sharing your journey. Great job!

Clark- I love that you recognize that any fitness time is better than no fitness time and you adjust your intensity accordingly. Well done!

Every Sunday, I pack my meals & snacks for the entire work week, so I can *consistently* eat healthy at work.
I go to the grocery market & farmer’s market at least 1x a week to load up on veggies & fruit!!
I’ve started drinking green tea every morning (with a little bit of lemon juice & stevia in it).
No matter how busy I get, I make sure to eat 5-6x a day.
Besides my regular workouts, I incorporate dancing at least 1x a week. I’ve also recently started bike riding for leisure as well.
I log into the RCR forum and check in with fave RCR community! :D

Danielly- I love how you have made being fit such a part of your life. You are such a great example because I know how busy you are but you make fitness and health a priority. Great job!

Well, because I’m on vacation it’s not as easy as it was to do the dvds. But I swim more and I eat small portions of food every three hours. I’m trying not to gain the 9 pounds I’ve lost.
