Workout Tip from Jerry Seinfeld
Pin It
While Jerry Seinfeld was still a touring comic, an aspiring young comedian was at one of his shows… and right before Jerry went on stage, he had the opportunity to say something to him. So he asked “Jerry, if you could offer one piece of advice to a young comic, what would it be?”
Here’s what he told him:
He said the way to be a better comic was to create better jokes and the way to create better jokes was to write every day. But his advice was better than that. He had a gem of a leverage technique he used on himself and you can use it to motivate yourself—even when you don’t feel like it.
He revealed a unique calendar system he uses to pressure himself to write.
Here’s how it works.
He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.
He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”
“Don’t break the chain,” he said again for emphasis.
So give it a shot. Get yourself a “Seinfeld Calendar.” Get your workout in today and “don’t break the chain!”
My guests and I at the Red Carpet Ready Fitness and Beauty Summit will be sharing all kinds of cool tricks like this… are you coming?

Hey Andy! So true. Jerry worked for his success as we must do for ours. I think people need to realize that once you get a bit of momentum going, the work part is so much more fun. It is the start that’s the hardest.
Maria- you are already doing this. Congrats!!
Mandy- You know better than anyone that consistency counts. That’s why you look so good.
Hey Candice- So much more info will be coming soon but to get you started: The event is 9-5. The party will start around 7 and go as long as people stay. There will be lots of goodies. Appetizers at the party but also swag. I don’t have the whole bag put together but this alone makes it worth it. Of course the real value will be in what you learn and who you meet. Speakers will talk for 30-45 min.
There will be time for mingling. I hope you can make it. Stay tuned for more. This event will sell out so don’t wait too long to sign up.
i like that tip..thanks for sharing!! i may try that with my morning cardio!
Love the advice from Jerry. He didn’t become a major success by luck…he worked at it. Same with Chris Rock, Joan Rivers, Don Rickles and the other comic greats.
Great tip! I have a workout calendar in my exercise space. It is incredibly motivating to look back at it and to see how much I’ve accomplished.
Maria
Nice Tip!
Can you give more details on the RCR event? Like what ate the times? How long is each speaker speaking for? And when and how long is the after party for? Is anything included in the after party like free drinks or is there a bar? Thanks!
