<p>The most popular style this year was clearly the strapless dress. In order to pull this off with confidence, you want to have seriously sexy shoulders. To achieve this, you want to follow my <a href="http://www.redcarpetready.com">Red Carpet Ready</a> diet and full body workouts - but then, we are going to polish the shoulders. This is where I add a circuit to hone in on a special body part.</p>

<p>If you want seriously sexy shoulders like the stars, then I&#8217;ve got a circuit for you!</p>
<p><strong>Start with a warm-up of Y&#8217;s, T&#8217;s and Scarecrows (from the <a href="http://valeriewaters.com/2010/03/05/bring-your-sexy-back/">previous post</a>) - do 10 reps of each and do the warm-up circuit 2x.</strong></p>
<p><strong>(A) Rear Delt Flye - 12 reps x 3 to 5 lbs</strong></p>
<p><strong>(B) W&#8217;s - 15 reps x 5-8 lbs</strong></p>
<p><strong>(C) Lateral Raise - 12 reps x 5 lbs</strong></p>

<p>With the Oscars less than a week away, all the celebs are working hard to make sure they look Red Carpet Ready for the big night. Well, you don&#8217;t need to be a celebrity to look and feel your best - all you need to do is follow the checklist below and you&#8217;ll be on your way to getting Red Carpet Ready!</p>
<p>1. Decide! It all starts here. This is not a &#8220;should&#8221;, like &#8220;I know I should get in shape&#8221;, &#8220;I should workout&#8221;, or &#8220;I should eat better&#8221;. This is &#8220;I WILL get in shape&#8221;. I WILL do whatever it takes and I will start now!</p>
<p>2. Order the <a href="http://www.redcarpetready.com">Red Carpet Ready Starter Kit</a>. This kit come with everything you need to transform your body. Just add a couple pair of dumbbells and get started.</p>

<p>5. Write your intentions. This is the cornerstone of my Red Carpet Ready Program. Intentions serve to keep you goals and how you intend to achieve them in the front of your mind.<br />
<strong>Sample Intentions:</strong><br />
I intend to be back in my skinny size 4 jeans by April 16th, 2010.<br />
I intend to eat clean, minimizing sugar, alcohol and white flour.<br />
I intend to do 3 full body Red Carpet Ready workouts each week.</p>
<p>6. Create a journal in the Red Carpet Ready Club. This is your support group - they are here to help. Joining the club is optional but it can really make a big difference in your results. Many of the women have had incredible success and are willing to help you do the same.</p>
<p>7. Read the book, organize your workout space. Motivation tends to follow action, so these are some easy action steps to get you going. You could also create a new playlist or get some new workout clothes.</p>
<p>8. Do your kitchen purge and re-stock. The answer to late night snacking or an afternoon binge is to get the trigger foods out of the house. Re-stock with healthy Red Carpet Ready approved foods and snacks.</p>
<p>9. Do the Red Carpet Ready Workouts. They are different for a reason. They are designed to create a long, lean, sexy look. Get ready for your Red Carpet Ready moment. <p>Valentine&#8217;s Day just passed and we can assume that copious amounts of the world&#8217;s most popular food were consumed..  most of it in a state that provides none of the magical benefits that chocolate can bring.</p>
<p>When chocolate is processed into the different forms of milk chocolate we&#8217;re all familiar with, all of the magic is lost.  Sugars, fats and a bunch of other junk is added and the natural power of the chocolate is, essentially, cooked out.</p>
<p>I&#8217;d like to point out that when I refer to chocolate in this article, I&#8217;m talking about real, raw chocolate (cacao).  NOT processed milk chocolate that&#8217;s often found in candy bars.</p>
<p>But, we&#8217;re here because we want to look better naked right?  Well I have great news!  Chocolate doesn&#8217;t only taste great, but it can be used to actually ENHANCE your weight loss!</p>
<p>I&#8217;m speaking from personal experience as I&#8217;ve lost just over 60 pounds in the past year consuming what some would consider &#8220;large&#8221; amounts of chocolate every day.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s some of the awesome properties RAW chocolate will deliver:</p>
<p><span id="more-1000"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>High-levels of antioxidants  (however, in milk chocolate products - the addition of dairy CANCELS out the antioxidants)</li>
<li>Increase ones energy substantially.  Cacao contains theobromine and caffeine, although in small amounts, the effects are felt.</li>
<li>The magnesium and MAO inhibitors increase physical flexibility <strong>(improve workout performance)</strong></li>
<li>Methylxanthine stimulants add several hours of additional power and strength <strong>(improve workout performance)</strong></li>
<li>Regulation of appetite, mood, memory and pain perception</li>

<p>There&#8217;s a reason why chocolate is associated with Valentine&#8217;s and other love-dovey days.  Not only is it super yummy and one of the most popular foods ever, but there&#8217;s chemical and scientific properties behind it.</p>
<p>Did you know there&#8217;s a chemical that seems to help create the feelings of love, attraction, excitement and euphoria?  It&#8217;s called phenylethylamine (PEA) and it has been dubbed the &#8220;love chemical,&#8221; and for good reason.</p>
<p>When we fall in love, PEA levels are shown to increase and we become excited and full of optimism.  Often times, PEA is abundant in happy, joyful people</p>
<p>On the contrary, PEA levels are shown to be noticeably lower in those suffering from depression.</p>
<p>Well studies have shown that chocolate contains a significant amount of PEA so when you consume that tasty bit of [unprocessed] chocolate, you’re supplementing your body with the LOVE chemical.</p>
<p>Chocolate is not only a &#8220;feel good&#8221; food, but it can be used with great effect in a weight loss program.</p>
<p>I encourage you to add some raw chocolate into your diet and see what happens. Try this awesome recipe from David Wolfe&#8217;s masterpiece &#8220;Naked Chocolate&#8221;</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1007" title="lemon-boats" src="http://valeriewaters.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/lemon-boats.jpg" alt="lemon-boats" width="500" height="498" /></p>
<ul>
<li>1/2 cup of chocolate powder (crushed cacao beans or nibs)</li>
<li>3 lemons</li>
<li>1 avocado, stoned and peeled</li>
<li>1/2 cup of carob powder</li>
<li>10 dates, stoned &amp; soaked</li>
<li>4 tablespoons of raw agave nectar</li>
</ul>
<p>Cut two of the lemons in half, lengthways.  Scoop the flesh out, being careful to keep the skins intact.  Cut a tiny strip off the bottom of each lemon half, so that they will sit flat on a plate without falling over.  Finely chop these cut-off strips and add them to a blender.  Juice of quarter of the scooped out lemon flesh and add that to the blender.</p>
<p>Discard the rest of the lemon flesh.  Blend the ingredients in the jug with the chocolate powder, avocado, carob powder, dates and agave nectar until smooth and creamy.  If it tastes too bitter add more agave nectar.</p>
<p>Divide the mixture into four and pile it into the boats</p>
<p>Cut up the third lemon to create sales and add one to each boat.</p>

Val, Happy Birthday!!!!  You have done so much for me I don&#8217;t know where to start!!  The most important thing I have learned from you is to simplify!!!  I always hear your voice, “you’re only one work out away from a good mood” or &#8220;you&#8217;re only one meal away from a RCR girl&#8221;.   Now when I fall off the wagon I just get back up, dust myself off and start again.  Thank you for all of you love and passion!!  I  am forever grateful!! <p>Here are some of the highlights of what Val has taught me:</p>
<p>The most important part of &#8220;Red Carpet Ready” is the word &#8220;Ready&#8221; :  being prepared and &#8220;ready&#8221; by purging your kitchen, buying and stocking clean foods,  lining up your water bottles,  and being armed with an arsenal of workouts is key.</p>
<p>Always have a &#8220;plan B” or a &#8220;plan C” available to stay in the game when life throws you a curve:   have a short, intense workout plan available if your exercise time gets cut short, have a plan for if you get injured and have to change the workout all together, take RCR friendly snacks to go in the car or the plane&#8230;etc.</p>
<p>&#8220;Progress not perfection” this is the story of my life&#8230;I so rarely have a perfect day, but Val always says concentrate on making one or two things better everyday and the rest of it will fall into place&#8230;.even if the plan is to stay more hydrated and to steam veggies early in the day, that is considered progress if you follow through and do it.  Pushing 2 or 3 extra reps per workout is progress&#8230;.strategizing your way out of a binge of bad food is progress&#8230;it all counts!</p>
<p>Lastly do everything you can to stay in the game.  If you &#8220;fall off the wagon” all it takes is one work out, or one meal to feel connected again&#8230;you&#8217;re only one workout away from a good mood&#8230;the same holds for getting back on track with the next meal.</p>
<p>The list is long but this is what always stands out to me after an entire year of doing all I can to stay RCR.  No other plan or program has ever been this worthwhile, fun or effective! Happy Birthday Valerie!! Love Dawn!!</p>

Val&#8211;I only discovered you and your workouts about 5 weeks ago, but in that time you have completely changed the way I feel about my body. I no longer feel helpless in my fight against belly pooch because it&#8217;s disappearing before my eyes&#8211;and I&#8217;ve always had a belly pooch! But what you&#8217;ve changed for me is deeper than that. Your workouts make me feel strong, capable and feminine&#8211;the way you have me training makes me appreciate what my body can do which makes me want to take even better care of it. It is one thing for me to know how great your workouts make me look and feel, but it&#8217;s another thing to know that you sincerely care about my success&#8211;it keeps me going on days when it would be easier to forget to take care of myself. As I&#8217;ve blogged all over the net, I&#8217;ve been a diet/exerciser since I was 13; I’ve been a trained dancer, group exercise instructor, yogini, nutty for nutritional trends and was on every trend that came out.</p>
<p>Thinking I was being pro-active on middle age I started training with heavier weights and less carbs as my 40&#8217;s hit&#8230;well, I went up a few pounds and got shapelier, which wasn&#8217;t bad, but by 46, my shoulders, knees, and joints were falling apart from decades of overuse, and my long held weight of 126-132 for YEARS zoomed up to 144 and STAYED there!</p>
<p>I found Valerie and RCR in despair -having to quit teaching my 10 classes a week and on a month long leave from my ICU nursing due to shoulder damage&#8230;..I poured my heart out to her, never dreaming there were REAL people at the other end and she answered my letter&#8230;.so I tried the 6 week original RCR - lighter workouts than I had done in years, but also very spare diet, high in vegetables, fruit, and not a lot of red meat, which to my cardiac nurse soul, was prudent&#8230;6 weeks later, 6lbs gone&#8230;</p>
<p>But what is more - A very sociable girl, I’m still reclusive when not working&#8230;I work out alone, hang around the house alone, take care of my family and work&#8230;.and the Forum, as moderator -to share what I&#8217;ve learned on the journey, became a network of kindred spirits and girlfriends! Along with support for what works/doesn&#8217;t work in diet/fitness, we also shared laughs, heartache, insight, and unconditional acceptance as women all trying to make something wonderful out of our lives.</p>
<p>At the head of it is Valerie - a strong if tiny woman, who has an honesty, sincerity, and generosity that sets her apart from the average human, and whose quiet commitment to her method has created a realistic, healthy and lifelong system of fitness for everyone.</p>
<p>I am closer to 50 than 40 now, and have not had to take anything for joint/bone pain in over a year by adopting Val&#8217;s techniques, my weight is in range of my norm - couple pounds up as I hit the mid life hormonal change, but healthy, pain free and fit&#8230;Moreover, Val has given us the blessed gift of a nationwide family that encourages and strengthens us daily! Dear Valerie – My world is so much brighter because you’re a part of it.  You took a depressed post-pregnancy blob and helped mold me into a sexy, confident action hero mama!  It’s not just my body that you’ve changed, either.  My husband lost almost 20 pounds and has increased energy thanks to the lessons you taught me about food prep and eating smaller meals throughout the day.  All of this is wonderful, but it’s nothing compared to seeing how these new healthy habits are being handed down to our son.  For example, the boy loves hanging out in the kitchen while I’m making meals because he knows that he will get to nibble on tasty treats such as sweet bell pepper slices and tomatoes.  Is there really anything more satisfying than a 20-month old asking for more veggies?  J<br />
My little guy also looks at exercise as a fun family activity.  If I’ve been sitting at the computer too long in the morning, he comes over, grabs my hand and starts doing squats.  Talk about motivation to get up and move!  On AHB days, the boy plays while I get set up, but as soon as you show up on the screen he immediately drops what he’s doing, runs to the TV and begins doing squats.  When I’m lifting weights, he picks up my little 2lb dumbbells and starts busting out bicep curls.  While he doesn’t understand it in these terms, yet, Spencer is learning that it’s good to eat right and exercise.  That’s an important lesson that too many people are missing out on these days.  Thanks to you, I am equipped to give my son the best, healthiest start possible and that is absolutely priceless.<br />
I can say without doubt or question that I am where I am today because you inspired me to do what I didn’t think was possible.  You gave me the tools I needed to become a better wife, mother and woman.  Saying “thank you” seems so small and inadequate, but it’s all I have to sum up just how much I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.  You are such a blessing and we appreciate you very much.  I hope your birthday is filled with all kinds of wonderful – you certainly deserve the very best life has to offer! Becoming a part of the RCR group is one of the best things that I did in 2009. I first purchased the Red Carpet Ready program based on Steph C.&#8217;s recommendation and started with that. I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. What I love about the RCR eating plan is that it is not a fad or a short term solution. Now that I am focusing on clean eating, I cannot ever imagine going back to the way that I had been eating before. For the first time, I feel like I have truly learned the best way to eat for both weight loss and for taking care of my body. I cannot thank you enough for all of the wonderful recipes (salsa chicken is such a great staple for me now) and for showing us how we should be eating. I have lost 30 pounds in the last 4 months! The workouts for all of your programs are wonderful as well. I love the fact that I can do the circuits at home or I can do them at the gym. They allow me a great deal of flexibility to workout when I am traveling or just don&#8217;t feel like leaving my house to drive to the gym. The workout programs and eating plans are fantastic on their own, but what has made this journey possible is the personal accountability that I have received from you and from the RCR forum. I have never been a part of a group that was so encouraging and so positive. Between the live chats and the constant personal interaction with the RCR forum, you have provided the perfect place for a complete transformation to be your best self. Well what can I say! I learnt about RCR over 3 yrs ago now before the RCR site was launched in September &#8216;08. Happy birthday!! Although we are supposed to be writing you as a &#8220;gift&#8221; it is really you who has given us the biggest gift of all. I came to RCR as a last resort. I was done dieting, done with quick fixes. I needed to get me sanity back as well as my body and mindset. When I began RCR, I was flooded with way too much information from don&#8217;t eat this and don&#8217;t eat that. The minute I let them go and trusted you with everything was the true turning point in my life.</p>

I could always train hard for marathons, but over 20 years, it became clear that running alone was not enough to stay in great shape. I&#8217;ve known Val and her Red Carpet Ready program for just over a year and can&#8217;t believe what a difference she has made to my life. Every time I hear her speak I come away with new knowledge and a new feeling of inspiration and belief in myself. <p>Becoming an Action Hero Babe has meant many things to me… Through Val’s program, I was able to focus on my health and wellness for the long-run and achieve excellent results. <p>I have spent over 15 years trying various diet and exercise programs with little success&#8211;becoming more and more frustrated and depressed. <p>One of my Red Carpet Ready Club members, &#8220;Agent Rachel,&#8221; was recently on a top secret recon mission&#8230;  ok, it was actually a simulation.  Here&#8217;s how she described it:</p>
